The Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Denise M. Rotheimer in her bid for election to represent the people of the 17th District on the Lake County Board.
"Denise Rotheimer is a new and energetic candidate that promises to work hard on environmentally sound policies in the county. She has devoted her high energy to strongly advocate for local issues, while working as a single mother and businesswoman" said Evan Craig, the chair of the Sierra Club's Wood and Wetlands Group. "Ms. Rotheimer also opposed bulldozing our forest preserves for the Olympics, while her opponent repeatedly voted to sacrifice our biggest forest preserve for that two week event. Rotheimer believes that transparent government is an antidote to the back room politics that dominated those Olympic discussions. As our county grows, transparent government and smart, environmentally sound growth policies are essential."
"It's also important to know," added Mr. Craig, “that Denise Rotheimer's opponent has presided over the Stormwater Management Commission for many years, weakening its water protection responsibilities. We know we can depend on Denise Rotheimer to reverse that trend and protect our wetlands, lakes, and streams when she joins the Lake County Board."
The 17th District is located in southwest Lake County and includes all or parts of Deer Park, Barrington, Barrington Hills, Lake Barrington, Fox River Grove, North Barrington, Port Barrington, Island Lake and Tower Lake.
