Candidates jab handling of sex-case victims

WAUKEGAN -- Two Democratic candidates for county offices took turns Friday blasting the way sexual victims are treated by the judicial system.
Michael Jacobs, a candidate for Lake County state's attorney, and Denise Rotheimer, Lake County Board District 17 candidate, promised to bring more support for victims of sexual crimes and criticized State's Attorney Michael Waller for not doing enough.
Citing statistics from a February Lake County News-Sun investigation, which revealed that the average offender in child sex cases was sentenced to only 2 1/2 years in prison, Jacobs and Rotheimer urged voters to elect people who support stiffer sentences.
